He was the 25th successor of Genghis Khan (1155/62/67-1227) and ruled over a part of the huge empire of the Mongols. His tomb stands in Bukhara; a city in today's Uzbekistan; and was covered with tiles inside and outside. The field with the spiral tendril comes from the outer facade. The ornament is not painted on here; but cut into the clay as a relief in an elaborate technique.
