First Meteosat Third Generation-Imager (MTG-I1) satellite launching on board an Ariane 5 rocket from Guiana Space Centre, French Guiana, on 13th December 2022. This is one of six weather satellites that form the Meteosat Third Generation system. The system is made up of four MTG-I satellites and two Meteosat Third Generation-Sounder (MTG-S) satellites, all in geostationary orbit. The new generation of satellites will continue to gather data for weather forecasting, with the MTG-I satellites adding real-time lightning imaging for early detection of severe storms.
