Remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Deep Discoverer traversing Wilmington Canyon, an underwater canyon in the deep Atlantic Ocean. This is one of the ROVs which can be deployed from the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) ship Okeanos Explorer for deep sea exploration. These ROVs are equipped with a camera, lights and a mechanical arm to observe and collect biological and geological data from the deep sea. Power and commands are supplied via the tether (left) which remains attached to the ship on the surface.
