Satellite image of Hunga Tonga-Hunga Haapai volcano. These two little islands in the South Pacific ocean are all that is now visible of a huge underwater volcano. The volcano exploded violently in January 2022, blasting 10 cubic kilometres of rock, ash and sediment straight into the sky, producing a plume 58 kilometres high. It was the biggest atmospheric explosion to be recorded by modern instruments. Image obtained by the Pleiades Neo satellite in January 2022.
