Pasadena, California November 14, 1971 A researcher examines the first data received from the Mariner 9 Mars Mission after a 167 day, 248 million mile journey to its 90 day orbit around the planet, using two cameras, one with wide angle and one with telephoto, an infrared radiometer to measure surface temperature, an ultraviolet spectrometer to measure atmosphere, and an infrared interferometer spectrometer to study the surface and atmospheric structure.
