Skin tag, also known as a fibroepithelial polyp, on the foot of a 73 year old female patient. Skin tags develop in both men and women as they grow older. They can be skin coloured or darker and range in size from 1 millimetres to 5 centimetres. They can develop anywhere but are most often found in the skin folds. It is not known what causes skin tags but chaffing and irritation, high levels of growth factors and the human papillomavirus may play a role. Skin tags can be removed by cyrotherapy, surgical excision and electrosurgery.
