Meibomian cyst, or chalazion, in the lower eyelid of a 56 year old female patient. This is caused when the meibomian, or secretory, glands of the eye become blocked or inflamed. It can cause swelling or lumps, tender eyelids and red or watery eyes. Chalazions usually go away on their own but it the lump persists or becomes infected, it can be drained or antibiotic medication can be taken.
