Athaliah hears the Proclamation of Joash; 837 BC. After the wholesale murders of Jehu; the massacre of the seventy princes of Israel and the forty-two princes of the house of David; Athaliah; the daughter of Ahab and wife of Jehoram; put the whole royal family of Judah to death. But her grandson Joash escaped; and was concealed by Jehoiada and Jehosheba; his wife. Six years later Joash was proclaimed king in the temple; and Athaliah; hurrying in to learn the reason of the rejoicing; was taken prisoner and executed.
