Doyle was a renowned Scottish author and physician, best known for his stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes. Throughout his prolific writing career, Doyle explored various genres, including fantasy, science fiction, plays, romance, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels. Doyle served as a volunteer medic for several months during the Second Boer War in 1900. He later wrote a book on the war, arguing in favour of the United Kingdoms role. Doyle believed it was the reason he was knighted in 1902.
