The bacteria commonly responsible for food poisoning belong to the groups Salmonella, Campylobacter and Listeria. The image was taken in one of the 52 laboratories found throughout the UK forming the Public Health Laboratory Service. The function of this institution is to detect the outbreaks of food poisoning, such as salmonellosis associated with eggs and poultry, the monitoring of infectious diseases, imported diseases and environmental disorders.
