International Space Station (ISS) over the Earth. This photograph was taken from the space shuttle Discovery during the Return to Flight mission (STS-114). Discovery took supplies to the ISS during the mission, which lasted from 26th July to 9th August 2005. It was the first shuttle flight since the loss of Columbia on 1st February 2003. Despite fears about damage to Discovery's heat shield, which prompted a spacewalk to conduct manual repairs, the shuttle landed safely. The ISS orbits Earth at an altitude of around 370 kilometres. This photograph was taken on 6th August 2005, just after Discovery undocked.
