Glacier geography, artwork. Glaciers are formed when snow and ice from high ground flows downhill under its own weight. Here, two glaciers join at centre. Distinctive landscape features are created by the weight of the ice, the meltwater, and erosion by ice and water. Seen here are: glacial lakes and rivers (bottom); eroded bedrock mounds (lower right); various moraine features (lateral moraines are the dark bands on the glacier, the semi-circular terminal moraine forms at the leading edge of the glacier); and cirques (bowl-shaped hollows in the mountains, upper left and right) at the head of the glaciers.
