Close-up of a knopper gall on an English oak tree (Quercus rubor) caused by a gall wasp (Andricus quercuscalicis). Knopper galls are growths that develop on oak trees when gall wasps lay their eggs in the tree buds. Within these galls, larvae feed on the tissue of the tree as they grow, but typically do not cause significant harm. Photographed in Dorset, UK.
