Degenerative myopia. Fundoscopy image of the retina of a patients eye in a case of degenerative myopia. The retina is the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. This image shows atrophic retinochoroidal degeneration with parts of the sclera (yellow) visible. A person with myopia is someone who is shortsighted or nearsighted. This is because the focal point of the light entering the eye falls in front of the retina instead of on it. In the case of myopic degeneration there are progressive fundus changes that get worse over time. Extensive retinal and choroidal thinning can result, exposing the sclera.
